Do I have to track my food to lose weight? In short no you don’t. HOWEVER…. There are 3 main reasons I recommend tracking your food for a period of time if you want to lose weight… INFORMATION Logging your food into an app like MyFitnessPal will provide you with so much information regarding your diet. . You will become aware of the calories MACROnutrients (proteins carbs fats) MICROnutrients (vitamins & minerals) fiber and sodium you’re consuming. . You will also gain a better understanding of portions and how much your body really needs. CONSISTENCY While on a weight loss journey tracking your food allows you to be more consistent so you can really see how your body responds and make adjustments accordingly. . Basically it eliminates much of the guesswork. ACCOUNTABILITY If you’ve ever tracked your food then you know just the sheer act of logging challenges you to be more mindful with what you’re eating. (Maybe I don’t need that third beer….) Tracking food is NOT something you should do forever and it is NOT something that you should obsess over or let control you! But when used in the right way with the right mindset it can be extremely helpful for making progress. So tell me what are your thoughts on tracking? Do you do it?
